What’s New in 3.1.0

Version 3.1.0 goes live on Monday, 2 November 2026.

Profile database 3.1.0 now covers 23,265 taxa, up from 22,914 in 3.0.0: 367 newly added species and subspecies, 21 genomospecies resolved to official names, and updated nomenclature throughout.

The update is based on the latest public genome data and current prokaryotic taxonomy (September 2026). Identification results may now show a different name for the same organism; the tables below map old names to new ones.

Updated species classifiers

Our species classifiers have been updated with the latest reference genomes. In our validation this gives a clearly better identification rate at species level, with fewerambiguous results and fewer misidentifications. Several species groups now also cover species that were missing until now.

Species change: Bacillus bombysepticus is merged into B. cereus. The two cannot be distinguished by their ribosomal protein masses, so results that previously read B. bombysepticus are now reported as B. cereus.

New species

367 species and subspecies are identifiable for the first time; 277 of them include the type strain. A selection from clinically, food- and environmentally relevant genera:
